Plant City barber still snipping away after 50 years

PLANT CITY —
Some of Jason Ross’ fondest childhood memories are of his dad Thomas taking him to Don Wells’ barbershop for a haircut, followed by a treat at the doughnut shop next door.

The bakery is long gone, but Ross still visits Wells whenever he needs a trim.

“I’ve been coming here since I was 5 years old. I wouldn’t go anywhere else,” the 31-year-old Ross said.

Wells is marking his 50th year in the haircutting business. He’s not planning any celebrations, although he said he gets satisfaction of seeing generations grow up from the vantage point of a barber’s chair at his shop at 1201 S. Collins St…
