Barbershop Literacy Project in Cleveland, OH

Local news affiliate WEWS-TV in Cleveland Ohio offers this wonderful segment highlighting Outliners Barbershop. Outliners spearheads a literacy program that focuses on improving reading skills among African-American boys and girls.

According to the program organizers, the barbershop is a community hub and a “place of power” in the eyes of young boys and girls. So, using a barbershop to instill good reading habits while waiting for their haircut vs. allowing kids to “zone out” in front of the TV is a win-win situation…!
