OWN Network Explores Beauty School Drama with “Houston Beauty”

(Houston Texas) Do you remember the characters and larger-than life personalities that worked and studied alongside you at Barber school..? Well, the same can be said of cosmetology school – with a more female “catty” spin. That’s why Oprah’s OWN Network decided to bottle up that fun and turn it into a reality show.

Houston Beauty showcases the lives of young women as they struggle through cosmetology school. According to the show’s homepage:

“For many of their students, the stakes are high as they have major barriers to overcome in their lives. A cosmetology license would mean a whole new life for them but only if they can overcome their personal struggles along the way.”

Here’s a 1-minute commercial for the show but keep scrolling for more info and a 5-minute “sneak peek” video…!

Similar in format to OWN’s popular show “Sweetie Pie’s”, the camera focuses on an iconic, family-run cosmetology school (Franklin Beauty School in Houston, TX) and the ongoing struggles, conflicts and life-changing moments (it is Oprah after all…) that occur with each incoming class. The anchor of the show is the school’s director, Glenda Jemison or “Mama J”. She and other teachers (Ms. Ely, Ms. Burns) provide wisdom and tough-love to a cast of unruly and sometimes violent students who, like all children, rebel against their authority while secretly craving their attention and discipline.

So, tune in this Saturday, November 2nd at 10pm EST on OWN for the series premiere. You can also tune in on Oct-30 at 10pm EST for a 5-minute sneak peak – but why wait..? We have it below just for you!
