The 12th annual Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards honored local businesses and leaders for their contributions and excellence within their own communities.

The award show which took place on August 9th, 2014 featured a blue-carpet filled with celebrities and the nominees to represent the corporate sponsorship of Ford, which gives $30,000 to the community leader winner. “For eight years, Ford has remained committed to this event and what it represents,” said Shawn Thompson, Ford Multicultural Marketing Manager.
Celebrities presented 12 nontraditional awards to the honorees of the community and are greeted by fans waiting to capture the perfect selfie and to meet their favorite stars. This years best barber shop winner was My Barber’s Lounge which boasts 2 locations in Maryland. This award is one of my favorite because often times our businesses are not viewed as professional or for creating an impact on its community.
According to Devon Kelly, My Barber’s Lounge was created to honor the childhood memories he shared with his father. “I want to help people make new memories that will not be long forgotten. I have constructed some of the nicest barbershops in Prince Georges County, where men and women can exchange stories while receiving excellent grooming services, where children look forward to coming for a haircut and everyone who comes enjoys their experience”. My Barber’s Lounge barbers are licensed, professional barbers who offer specialty cuts for men, women and children in a comfortable and relaxing environment.
Devon Kelly is an entrepreneur with a big heart. He also owns NOVAD Management Consulting, LLC started in 2003. Please visit www.mybarberslounge.com to learn more about this barbershop that is shaping its community.
