A Real Hero – Anthony “Joe the Barber” Cymerys

We at BARBinc wanted our readers to know of a situation in the hopes that a solution can be found…

Anthony “Joe the Barber” Cymerys has been a fixture every Wednesday for over 25 years at Bushnell Park in Hartford, Conn., where he cuts the hair of homeless folks for free. While cutting people’s hair (and giving out hugs), Cymerys’ friends distribute food to the needy. Recently, Anthony was kicked out of the park by city officials because “he didn’t have a permit”. A full account of the situation was first reported by the Associated Press.

Below, we have a teaser for a documentary on Anthony’s life and work. Also, we ask that readers in the New England area (especially Hartford, CT) call your local officials to register your support for this pioneering barber. For now, Anthony has relocated to the Immaculate Conception Homeless Shelter but he hopes to return to Bushnell Park soon.
