(Fayetteville, North Carolina) For years barbershops have served as an educational and cultural base within a community. Kevin Brooks, Owners of Trimmerz Barbershop took it one step further and established his barbershop as an establishment for community service with the annual Gotcha Back Backpack Giveaway.
With economic times growing increasingly harder over the past few years, children and their educational needs are continuously in trouble. With school budgets decreasing the yearly school supplies for children have become a burden for parents and a uphill battle for parents with multiple children.
Kevin Brooks wanted to make a difference. The Gotcha Back Backpack Giveaway is an annual charity event that provides a backpack filled with school supplies to elementary and middle school students in need. With this event yielding attention and consistent success, it has now grown to included the backpack giveaway, serve as an information fair for parents and as an activities fair for children to enroll them in successful after-school programs and activities. This event not only brings together the community but businesses, teachers and community leaders to evaluate, discuss and plan alternatives for increase the educational awareness and success of their children.
