(Boston, Massachusetts) The Boston Public Health Commission has made several strides in the past few years to raise awareness in various communities regarding health care accessibility. One of the major assets has been a partnership with local barbershops. Alberto’s Barbershop is one of many barbershops participating in this health outreach program with the Boston Public Health Commission and was used as the public launchpad for the program.
With a new $300,000 grant provided by the Health Connector, the Boston Public Health Commission is now able to setup a Health Navigator which will serve as an information hub to educate and enroll residents and small businesses into insurance options which they may not have been aware of before. The goal is to use small businesses such as Alberto’s Barbershop to give residents a forum which they can visit regularly. Having this access will enable residents, business owners and employees to ask the “tough questions” about healthcare including questions they would not normally ask or they could not find the answers to because they did not know who to ask.
Navigators from the Mayor’s Health Line can answer questions and explain coverage options, provide personalized information about eligibility, assist with enrollment in the right plan and help people find health-care providers. Representatives are available by phone at 617-534-5050 or 1-800-847-0710 or by email at [email protected].
