With many individuals within the community lacking health insurance, going to the doctor’s office can usually end up low on the priority list. But the Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program and the Men’s Health Alliance have teamed up with local barbershops in Worchester, Massachusetts to bring awareness of essential health concerns, testing and treatment options to the community.
Combining events, such as a health fair and basketball tournament unites the community and gives them access to information otherwise not available. Barbers understand they have unique access to the personal lives of their customers and want to extend their roles beyond a weekly haircut.
