“Making the Cut: Finals Part 2” Review
The Finals: Part 2 begins by re-introduing the finalists, Anthony Arejo and Paul Mogannam, Jr. – and handing out the final challenge. The finalists are to perform a Tapered Shear cut (aka “Business Cut”) in 30 minutes (?) which is the same cut that is used to complete California’s state barber’s exam.
It was a Very nice twist to bring contestant Daniel Porter (eliminated in an earlier round) back as a guest judge. Another surprise twist adds even more complexity to the event…
But what’s truly interesting in this “final-final” episode is that the storytelling and overall “polish” by RCE Studios has been kicked up a notch.
The producers now have a good formula for pacing each scene (Intro, Competition, Judging, Verdict, Post-Climax) that’s nearly perfect… The episode is not too fast (as in Episodes #1 and #2) and certainly not too slow. Also, despite ongoing issues with audio, subtitles are still plentiful (thankfully) to help make out what people are saying.
This episode clocks in at 21+ minutes. But DAMN, we enjoyed every minute of it…! In particular, we were happy to see an expanded middle part (Judges Feedback) where each Judge had their moment to shine and dispense hair-cutting wisdom that will benefit any aspiring barber – not just the two finalists.
And the winner is…
…OK, did you really think we’d spoil the fun..? DEFINITELY watch the video and if you feel inspired, leave a message to congratulate the winner (or all the contestants)…!
